The members of Houselink & Mainstay’s Board of Directors include:

Leslie Gash Chair, former Mainstay director, Community member

Leslie is the Senior Vice President of Development for Waterfront Toronto. She has more than 30 years of development work experience in the non-profit and social housing sector. Leslie is highly skilled in site analysis, budgets, planning approvals, community engagement, construction and community economic development.

Stephen Rogers Vice Chair, former Houselink director, Tenant member

Steve has been a Houselink member since 2002. Before joining Houselink he worked steadily from the age of 15. However, eventually, an untreated trauma from his childhood combined with another trauma as an adult ended Steve in the hospital where he was diagnosed with PTSD. That’s when he became a Houselink member.

Since joining he has learned that mental health issues are not something to be ashamed of. The ability to give back and be part of the Board and the organization has helped him and he is pleased to continue to serve on the new Houselink & Mainstay board.

Joann Sochor Treasurer, former Houselink director, Community member

She has been a central Toronto (Annex) resident for about 30 years and has witnessed some of the difficulties experienced by the homeless, especially those who have survived the challenges of mental illness.

She has also been fortunate to have worked for many years in financial services and information technology. She has an MBA and an undergraduate from the University of Chicago. She is the proud mother of a 21 year-old young woman.

She has been pleased to serve on the Houselink Policy Committee for 7 years, on the Houselink Board for 6 years and as the Treasurer for two years.

Drew Baillie former Mainstay director, Community member

Vice President, Digital at KPMG, strategy and operations lead, driving the growth of KPMG’s Digital Transformation services. Prior to this, Drew was a Management Consultant for 12 years in the Healthcare Industry, advising governments and health service providers on health system design. Drew is an Industrial Engineer, specializing in Health Systems, has a Masters in Health Administration, and holds a Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation.

Gord Singer former Mainstay director, Tenant member

A Mainstay tenant since 1990, Gord is skilled in governance having served on numerous boards and committees. He has extensive experience in public speaking, advocacy and providing direct service in mental health. He has been employed as a Peer Support Specialist at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital since 1999 and is a Certified Peer Supporter. Gord is a member of the CAMH Research Ethics Board and has published articles on Recovery and Peer Support.

Phillip Dufresne former Houselink director, Tenant member

Phillip Dufresne has served on and off on the Houselink Board for about 21 years. Most recently he was the Chair of the Board leading up to amalgamation. He has lived in Houselink for 29 years. Phillip volunteers on the Social Recreation Committee and the Toronto Mental Health and Addictions Supportive Housing Network. He has also served on the ONPHA Board, the Fred Victor Board and the Dream Team.

He says working on the Board has helped him better understand the organization and empowers him and other participant members. He believes participant members need to have a say in how their housing and programs are run and he wants to do his best to help make Houselink & Mainstay a better organization.

Linda McNeil former Houselink director, Tenant member

Linda has been a Houselink resident for the past 13 years. She has had the pleasure of cooking for tenants/participants in the community kitchens for years. She was a drop-in operator at Houselink’s drop in until COVID-19 ended that for the time being. She is pleased to be representing tenants and participants at Houselink & Mainstay on the new board.

Andy Ip former Houselink director, Community member

Andy is the Manager, Human Resources at the Canadian Institute for Health Information and has been in HR leadership positions for almost 10 years.  He is a firm believer that housing is a critical pillar to someone’s overall well-being. He is active in the community and has volunteered previously with the Canadian Red Cross and is currently on the board of directors at his local HR chapter. He holds a Masters of Human Resources Management from York University and is a Certified Human Resources Leader.

Carole King Mainstay tenant and former Mainstay and Houselink’s director, Tenant member

Carole lives in supportive housing and it has made a great difference in her life. Her health has improved and she enjoys an improved quality of life. She believes in quality supportive housing and the positive impact it has on tenants.  She has been a member of the Houselink Board of Directors. Carole also served on the Empowerment Council Board of Directors at CAMH. She feels the perspective of tenants is important for Houselink & Mainstay.
